Radial extrusion

Radial screw extruders use semi-cylindrical screens along each side of the counter rotating screws, combined with, more or less, conical extrusion heads. The trajectory of the extrusion blades on these heads can either intermesh (EXR) or not (EXD)...

Dome extrusion

The patented TDG Twin Dome Granulator? offers high capacity twin screw extrusion through a hemi-spherical die that allows for uniform distribution of extrusion pressure and shear.
Some materials are suitable for extrusion down to 300- 600 micron.

Basket extrusion

The BR Basket Extruder is the lowest pressure extruder available on the market. Material enters by gravity and is wiped through perforated screens by extrusion blades. The gap between blade and screen is adjustable.

The basket extruders are not part of the family of screw extruders. These basket extruders have a vertical rotating shaft with 4 extrusion blades located inside a cylindrical screen. The basket extruders are fed through a hopper located above the cylindrical screen while rotating pressure blades assist the material flow into the extrusion zone.

The basket extruder requires a very limited amount of energy to push the material through the screen, resulting in granules with a relatively low density and hardness.

Benefits:
Production scale basket extruders are available in the following models for industrial applications:

Frontal extrusion

The EXDF Frontal Extruder has twin screws that transport material and pusch it to a frontal plate, allowing somewhat higher pressure thanthe other Fuji Paudal extruders. Normally used when particles larger than 2 mm are desired.

The frontal screw extruders use a flat screen, combined with two flat extrusion blades, to shape the granules. Two counter rotating screws feed the product to the extrusion die. The forces necessary to extrude the products are the highest, compared to other low pressure extruders.

This results in hard and dense granules. Temperature raises up to 75 °C, with hot spots up to 100 °C are not uncommon for this machine type. The minimum screen opening is 2.0 mm.

Continuous granulation

The Dalton-Fuji Paudals’ Continuous Drug Pelleting (CDP) System fully integrates the extrusion and spheronization process to continuously convert drug formulations into free flowing spheres of a controlled shape and size.

Features:

  • Components include patented Circle Feeder™, patented Twin Dome Granulator™ or Radial Xtruder™, Discharge Device, and Marumerizer™
  • (Spheronizer)
  • Compact design ideal for GMP suites
  • System components easily accessible for cleaning and maintenance
  • 316 stainless steel GMP design with high polish finish
  • Integrated spheronizer plate lifting device
